About Us
HerStory NOLA is a creative mentorship project that teaches the art and skill of personal storytelling to female participants ages 10 to 18. We host hands-on workshops where participants collaborate with college-aged mentors to produce digital videos about their lives and experiences.
Over 3 years, HerStory has worked with 154 students through 3 schools and 2 community partners in New Orleans.
At HerStory, we believe in all young women’s rights to independent and free expression. We invite our participants to explore the power of their own voice and listen to the stories of others.
Our Process
How do I want to express myself?
Do I write a poem, rap, or song?
What images should I include?
Where do I add music and sound?
Who do I want to see my story?
What can people learn from my story?
What did I learn from other stories?
What do I want to explore?
What matters to me?
Where have I been?
Where am I going?
